Starting something new is always a bit scary and intimidating. Whenever you step outside of your comfort zone and put yourself out there, it comes with a certain risk. Mostly it's easier to never start it, rather than risk failure or embarrassment. But then you also never risk success and fulfillment either. I have recently decided to take a big risk and start a photography business. It's something that has been buzzing around in my mind for a while, but I never gave the thought any attention, always pushing it back down because I didn't want to take the time to figure it out. The timing. The details. The scary business of putting myself out there. But then someone took a risk on me, asked me to take their family photos, and I took the leap. I said yes. And the idea that had been buzzing in the back of my mind was finally too loud for me to shush. I listened. I let the idea roll around in my head for a while. Then I made a decision. Let's do this, I thought to myself. Then when I felt brave enough, I said it out loud. I committed to it. And now I'm taking the steps to make it happen.
A few weeks ago I decided I'd practice a family session on my own family. With a tripod and a remote, we set out to a beautiful location just before sunset, when the light turns golden and everything has a magical feel to it. I prepped my kids by telling them we would have fun with the shoot. We wouldn't just sit on a blanket and cheese our way through the shots. And I tried to stay as true to this as I could. We played games and raced each other and goofed around. And mostly it was fun. But it also it was a little stressful. Taking your own family photos is a big undertaking. But I'm so very pleased with the end results.

Since then I have done a few more photo shoots that I am very excited to share with you. I have set up a photography Facebook page and will be adding client sessions on there. Eventually I will have a website and be all professional. Baby steps. It'll all come together in baby steps. If you'd like to follow my journey, come on over to my Facebook page: https://www.facebook.com/angiemahlkephotography/.
If you're in my area, I'd love to photograph your family!
