Holiday week

The Holiday.

It was a little odd having the Fourth of July fall right smack dab in the middle of the week. It kind of threw off the whole week. Dave had to work the whole week but Wednesday, so we didn't do much to celebrate. We went to our good friends' house, the Fravels, for a BBQ.
The boys had a tea party.
Then they had a pool party.
Then came the sparklers, which proved to be a tad dangerous for curious toddlers.
We ended in the sandbox, where else?
We also did an Independence Day project. Using pipe cleaners as a paint brush and some glitter, Spencer created fireworks.

The Week.

This week we mostly played. I tried to come up with some fun indoor activities since it was so awfully hot out, but we did have some fun in the pool, too.
We made an extensive railroad and bridge system with chairs and TV trays.
When we were finished with the railroad, we used the chairs to build a fort.
Of course Spencer turned the fort into another railroad.
Who doesn't love laundry basket rides?

They played tug of war with their mouths.
Morning dip in their jammies.
We did one letter V project. I made a stamp out of a milk jug cap and a foam V sticker. Spencer stamped the V onto a vine I drew onto a piece of paper to create leaves. Once the picture dried, I cut out upper and lower case Vs to make the Vv flashcard.

The Weekend.

We had a pretty low key weekend for once. It was kind of fun to not be so busy for a change. We got a few things done around the house even!

Last summer we took a trip to Lake City, MN for a letter S field trip to see the sailboats. We had such a good time that we decided to make it an annual summer event. We went again on Friday, which was probably the hottest day out of this heat streak we've been on. Needless to say, we did not stay outside too long to admire the boats. Afterwards we cooled off at our favorite hometown diner in Lake City for an early supper.

Look at his rosy cheeks!

Saturday Dave's hunting buddy, Jeff, was in town, so we met him at Scharmer's for a BBQ. First, Spenc and the men headed off into the woods to do hunting preparations while Ash and I had a photo shoot. Spencer did not get off so easily, though; I tricked him later into a photo shoot, too. We hiked to a deer stand with a pair of binoculars, and I told my two year old that my camera was my binoculars. It worked for a few pictures anyway.

Jeff was practicing.
Here is my latest edition of Mommy Photography:

Sunday Dave took Spencer out on the boat fishing. Ashton and I went for a long walk along the country roads. It's so nice to be able to be outside again without gasping for breath from the humidity.

The start of the walk....
......A few minutes into the walk.
